A message from Valencia CF President, Anil Murthy, after the meeting held on Tuesday with the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig:
“I am saddened to hear the statements made by Ximo Puig and his irresponsible attacks on Meriton following our meeting yesterday at the Palau de la Generalitat. Our conviction is to continue searching for solutions for the completion of the new stadium.
The commitment and credibility of the club can be measured, for example, by the club’s repayment of its bank debts, something that nobody has done before, and helping Valencian society especially during the COVID-19 crisis with the donation of healthcare equipment to hospitals in the Valencia region, when that equipment was not available due to the inadequate handling of the crisis.
Currently, we have a financial responsibility to sustain the club in a very difficult year. We have a responsibility with the new stadium project. Indebting the club without selling the land beforehand is irresponsible. It would mean repeating the same mistakes made in the past, and would probably lead the club to bankruptcy.
At this point, we have to work together to look for a complete solution. We are not politicians. We hope that the institutions get involved and help us to find a solution to the stadium situation, rather than the contrary – generating uncertainty around a project that is so important for Valencia CF and citizens of the region with irresponsible words."
